Making A Positive Contribution
Our smart shipping methods, removal and recycling practices, and retro products reduce your institution’s environmental impact and help you make a positive contribution to your community.
With our full installation and removal service, we can donate your old mattresses to the charity of your choice.

Our compression-wrap shipping method means we can ship as few as one mattress in a standard UPS box, or hundreds without risking damage to the product, or paying extra fuel costs for LTL (less than truckload) orders.

Our retro inverted side-seam mattress covers allow you to preserve your existing tape-edge mattresses by protecting your mattress investment from future damage.

Please contact us today to let us know how University Sleep can help your organization.
University Sleep Products (“USP”) often delivers used mattresses to furniture recycling facilities that deconstruct and recycle recoverable materials for their clients. We strictly follow each institution and state’s guidelines and will help you manage your sustainability initiatives to reduce materials from going to local and out-of-state landfills.
The process begins with a crew of workers who specialize in university and government furniture installation and removal arriving at a time and place set by the university. The workers remove the mattresses and pack them in trucks that USP will arrange. USP will then have the trucks deliver the mattresses to the nearest appropriate recycling plant that specializes in furniture for deconstruction.

The deconstruction of mattresses includes, but is not limited to, removal of the old cover for disposal, “cooking” the innerspring units for approximately six hours, and then subjecting them to a high pressure saturated steam (autoclaving) for sterilization. The steel can then be re-sold. The foam will be shredded and can also be reused, as can the interior fabrics. Finally, depending on state law, the recycling plant will issue a certificate stating that the mattresses have been recycled. If the plant is required to issue such a certificate, a copy will be provided for the client.

The costs involved with this process include: (1) the fixed cost of getting the crew to the location, (2) the time involved in removing the mattresses and packing the trucks, (3) the cost of the trucks to take the mattresses to the recycling center and (4) the cost of recycling. The amount of these costs vary with the scope of the project.

As an alternative, University Sleep Products is also prepared to partner with the institution to promote not-for-profit mattress recycling of used mattresses. With your consent, University Sleep Products will see that mattresses are go to not-for-profit organizations, when and where appropriate. This practice is a practical as well as socially conscious.
CLASS DISCUSSION
What People Are Saying!

I have heard nothing but great reviews about your mattresses and installation… I even have some employees that want to buy some. If you ever need a reference, you can count on us

Cornell University

We have been extremely pleased with the mattresses since we ordered the first batch two years ago, but it seems that the new edition is an even better product. We had some students who helped us move them in and they actually loved them so much compared to the previous ones that they ended up sneaking back into the residence hall that night and sleeping on them. Keep up the good work and know that as we continue to move forward with renovations, we will keep ordering your mattress.
